Anhua Dark Tea Mini Bricks are a traditional post-fermented tea from Anhua County in Hunan Province, China. Anhua Dark Tea is recognised as a Chinese National Geographical Indication product and has a long history connected with the Ancient Tea Horse Road, along which compressed dark tea was transported across distant regions for centuries.

The tea undergoes post-fermentation, during which controlled microbial activity gradually transforms the leaves and develops a smooth, mellow and warming character. It is traditionally known for its distinctive woody, grain-like and mushroom-like aroma, with very little bitterness or astringency.

Inside the tea bricks, naturally occurring golden-coloured growth known as Jin Hua, or “Golden Flowers,” may be visible to the naked eye. These golden specks are associated with Eurotium cristatum, a beneficial microorganism traditionally valued in the production of certain styles of Anhua Dark Tea.

During fermentation, these microorganisms interact with the tea leaves and contribute to the tea’s distinctive fragrance, rounded texture and complex flavour. The presence and appearance of the Golden Flowers may vary naturally between individual tea bricks.

When brewed, Anhua Dark Tea produces a deep amber to reddish-brown liquor with a warm and comforting aroma. The flavour is smooth, mellow and full-bodied, with notes of aged wood, dried grain, gentle mushroom, herbs and subtle sweetness, followed by a soft and lingering finish.

Each box contains six convenient mini tea bricks, making the tea easy to prepare, store and share. One mini brick is suitable for a larger teapot or for serving approximately three to four people.
