2024 White Peony (Bai Mu Dan) 40g
White Peony, also known as Bai Mu Dan, is a traditional white tea from Fuding, Fujian Province. Within the traditional grading system of white tea, Bai Mu Dan is generally regarded as the grade following Silver Needle, offering a fuller flavour and a more expressive leafy character.
Unlike Silver Needle, which is made primarily from tender unopened buds, Bai Mu Dan is traditionally produced using one young bud accompanied by the first two tender leaves. This combination gives the tea a beautiful natural appearance, with silvery buds surrounded by soft green and brown leaves.
The 2024 harvest is particularly valued for its excellent fragrance, natural sweetness and rich internal character. The favourable growing conditions of the year produced leaves with both fresh drinking quality and good potential for further ageing.
White Peony undergoes minimal processing, traditionally involving careful withering followed by gentle drying. The leaves are not heavily rolled or intensively oxidised, allowing their natural floral aroma, fresh flavour and soft texture to remain clearly expressed.
When brewed, 2024 White Peony produces a clear pale-golden to golden liquor with a gentle floral fragrance reminiscent of peony blossoms and spring wildflowers. The flavour is fresh, mellow and naturally sweet, with notes of flowers, young hay, melon and soft honey, followed by a delicate and lingering finish.
Compared with Silver Needle, Bai Mu Dan generally offers a fuller body and a more layered flavour while retaining the elegance and low astringency associated with high-quality white tea. It is an excellent choice for those who enjoy a balance of fresh floral fragrance, natural sweetness and gentle depth.
With careful storage, the tea may gradually develop warmer and more mature notes of honey, dried fruit and herbs while becoming smoother and more rounded over time.
