Silver Needle (Baihao Yinzhen) 40g
Silver Needle White Tea, also known as Bai Hao Yin Zhen, is one of the most refined and highly regarded white teas produced in Fuding, Fujian Province. Developed in the late nineteenth century, Silver Needle represents the highest grade of traditional white tea and is prized for its limited production, delicate fragrance and naturally sweet flavour.
The tea is produced from carefully selected tender spring buds picked during a short harvesting period in early spring. Each slender bud is approximately 3cm long and densely covered with fine, silvery-white hairs, giving the finished tea its distinctive appearance and the name “Silver Needle.”
Only the finest young leaf shoots are suitable for producing Silver Needle. The narrow harvesting window, strict selection standard and relatively low yield make it one of the most precious and labour-intensive styles of white tea.
The 2024 harvest is widely regarded within the white tea market as one of the finest vintages of the past decade. Favourable growing conditions allowed the buds to develop excellent fragrance, sweetness and internal richness, producing a tea with both immediate freshness and strong potential for future ageing.
Silver Needle undergoes minimal processing, traditionally involving careful withering followed by gentle drying. The leaves are neither heavily rolled nor intensively oxidised, helping preserve the buds’ natural fragrance, soft texture and pure character.
When brewed, the 2024 Silver Needle produces a clear, pale golden liquor with a fresh and elegant aroma. The flavour is delicate, smooth and naturally sweet, with notes of wildflowers, fresh hay, honeydew melon and sugarcane, followed by a clean and lingering finish.
Young Silver Needle is appreciated for its freshness, floral character and refined sweetness. With careful storage, high-quality Silver Needle may gradually develop warmer and deeper notes of honey, dried fruit and herbs while retaining its smooth and rounded texture.
