Rou Gui Oolong Central rock region 6 bags/48g
Rou Gui Oolong is a classic Wuyi Rock Tea from the renowned Zhengyan growing area of Wuyi Mountain in Fujian Province. Our Rou Gui is sourced from the highly regarded “Three Pits and Two Streams” region, traditionally considered one of the finest core production areas for authentic Wuyi rock tea.
The name “Rou Gui” literally means “cinnamon” in English. However, the tea does not contain any cinnamon or added flavouring. The name refers to its naturally warm, spicy and slightly peppery character, which can create a mouthfeel reminiscent of cinnamon.
Rou Gui is a semi-oxidised oolong tea made from a distinctive tea cultivar widely grown in the Wuyi Mountain region. It rose to prominence during the late Qing Dynasty and has since become one of the most recognised varieties of Wuyi Rock Tea.
The rocky soil, narrow valleys, misty climate and unique growing conditions of the Zhengyan area contribute to the tea’s distinctive mineral character, often described as “rock rhyme” or Yan Yun. The leaves are traditionally processed through careful withering, tossing, oxidation, rolling and roasting, creating a tea with depth, structure and a complex aromatic profile.
When brewed, Rou Gui Oolong produces a bright amber liquor with a bold and layered fragrance. The flavour is full-bodied and warming, with notes of cinnamon-like spice, pepper, ripe fruit, roasted wood and a clear mineral finish. Its aroma and flavour remain expressive over multiple infusions.
